About National Institute of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation

The National Institute of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation was founded on the initiative of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan in August 2014. Its foundation was timed to coincide with the preparation of athletes to participation in 2015 Summer European Games. The opening of the institute was attended by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev, first lady Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva, Minister for Youth and Sports Affairs Mr. Azad Ragimov.

The institute focuses on comprehensive advancement of record-setting sports, rehabilitation treatment for athletes defending the colors of the national flag of the country to get them back to full-scale training and participation in sports competitions as quickly and safely as possible. The foundation of the institute must continue the process of national medical staff training in sports medicine, biomechanics, optical kinematics and other fields at a revolutionary new state-of-the-art level to achieve the international experience of continuity in the cooperation between physicians and trainers in order to improve sports results and to enhance safety in sports.

An important element in the institute’s activity is the creation of the “Medical Passport of an Athlete” data base to gather, store and analyze information about the physical development, functional state of the body of qualified athletes and their immediate reserve, about the training process, rehabilitation after injuries, diseases or surgeries.

The institute has clinical, scientific and training divisions.
